Gone but not forgotten. Aldo Menéndez was born in 1948 Cienfuegos, Cuba. A heart of gold, a smile of pure joy, a kindness that extended to all he knew. From 1991 to 1994 he lived in Madrid, Spain. In 1994 he moved to Miami, Florida, USA where he passed away in Miami on December 17th, 2020.

Aldo was a graduate of ENA (National School of Art) in Havana, Cuba. Artist, designer, writer, art critic, researcher, cultural icon, and endless story teller make Aldo Menéndez one of the central figures in the Cuban art world inside and outside of the island for the last 40 years.

While in Cuba, Aldo was part of the leadership in the cultural space and was founder of the historic René Portocarrero serigraph studio, where he mentored most of the 1980s generation of Cuban artists many of whom are included in the book he edited “Artists in Purgatory”.

Forever in our hearts, Aldo remains a great master of Cuban art and the soul of a generation of Cuban artists.
